Lela I. Smiley

	Lela I. Smiley, age 96, of Pinckneyville, passed away Thursday morning, March 11, 2004 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
	Lela was born September 21, 1907 in Pinckneyville, the daughter of Joseph and Hattie (Turner) Qualls.  She was united in marriage in St. Louis, Mo. on December 4, 1937 to Edward F. Smiley and he preceded her in death in December 1970.
	Lela worked at the Piller's Drugstore and Walker's 5 & 10, was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville.
	Lela is survived by nephews, Aaron M. Greer of Pinckneyville, Everette Greer and wife Vern of Colleyville, Tex. and Wayne Greer and wife Nancy of Pinckneyville; two nieces, Naomi Ellis and Melba Qualls, both of Sioux City, Ia. and numerous great-nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers, Olis, Auda and Verner Qualls and James Elmer Greer and one sister, Verda Qualls.
	Funeral services were Saturday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Brother Rob Mathis officiating.  Interment was in the Holt's Prairie Cemetery in Pinckneyville.
	Friends called at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville Friday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. then on Saturday morning from 8 until 9 a.m. then at the church from 9:30 a.m. until services.
	Memorials may be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Carmi or the First Baptist Church of Pinckneyville.
